SERVICES OFFERED:

The key to a successful Ergonomics program is employee commitment and investment in that program. This begins with education, and ergonomic training is the key to educating your employees in their own health and safety while at the workplace.
This ergonomic training will prepare your employees to identify ergonomic risk factors at their own workstations, and correct many of the common problems that may exist. In many cases, these corrections can be made immediately. Your employees will be more aware of proper body postures and body mechanics, and proper equipment positioning that will reduce their risk of injury at work.
Not only does this process of theory and practice reduce the overall risk of injury to your employees, but it also invests your employees in their own health and safety. In this way, each employee develops a sense of ownership that has long-term benefits.
Group Training
Each training session takes approximately 2 hours, and requires employee interaction. To be most effective, it is recommended that groups not exceed 20 employees. Handouts are provided that can be used by your employees again and again as reference materials. This training meets Cal/OSHA’s guidelines for ergonomic training, as per Title 8, Article 106, Section 5110 of the Cal/OSHA Ergonomic Standard.

Workstation evaluations are required by Cal/OSHA, if the trigger of the Cal/OSHA Ergonomics Standard is met. Workstation evaluations can be conducted individually, or for groups on a walk-through basis.
An individual worksite evaluation includes individual training, and takes approximately 1 to 1½ hours. The results with recommendations can be delivered verbally or in a written report. This type of workstation evaluation is recommended for employees who have reported pain or discomfort, or who have filed Workers’ Compensation or ADA claims.
For walk-through evaluations, it is recommended that group training be provided first. The group training will prepare your employees to return to their workstations to make some corrections immediately. While your employees are making corrections to their own workstations, a walk-through evaluation will be conducted at each workstation, spending up to 20 minutes with each employee, addressing questions or concerns specific to each workstation. During each walk-through evaluation, a "Walk-through” report with recommendations will be completed for you to keep as a record of the evaluation in the event that Cal/OSHA makes an unannounced visit to your workplace.

A job analysis is used in a Workers’ Compensation case, or in an American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) claim. A job analysis objectively documents the physical demands of the job. This information is used by the medical treater to determine if the job is physically appropriate for the injured or disabled employee. The job analysis can also be used by the Return-to-Work Coordinator when returning the injured or disabled employee to modified or alternate work.

When building new workstations, or when retrofitting workstations, it is important to look at ergonomic considerations before the construction or retrofit begins. Often, mistakes are made at this time, and to correct them later can be costly and time consuming.
Workstation design mistakes are made when the job tasks performed there are not taken into consideration during the design process. Many design problems are created early on that become problems for the user later on.
Fran has a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design. Space planning and workstation design are her specialties. Before the building process begins, Fran will meet with your architects to discuss design features that can become problematic down the road. It’s easier to erase and revise the blueprint than to tear-down and rebuild.
